New Year and New Beginnings
A new year arrives full of resolutions that rarely outlive February, and quieter hopes we hardly dare say aloud. These verses turn the corner on something steadier than willpower: a God whose mercies are new every morning, who holds the future we cannot see, and who makes all things new. They suit a Watchnight service, the first Sunday of January, or any moment that calls for a fresh start.
Churches keep Watchnight on 31 December and welcome the new year on the first Sunday of January.
A note for planning
Resist the urge to make it all about goals. The good news of a new year is not that we will finally try harder, but that God’s faithfulness is new every morning, whether the last year went well or badly. Let that be the keynote.
