About 316 Quotes

We are a small UK team who love the Bible and want to make it easy to find, understand and share. We have been doing this, quietly, since 2014.

Where the name comes from

316 Quotes is named after John 3:16, the verse a lot of us learnt first: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son." That sentence holds the thing we most want to pass on. Love, a gift, and hope. It felt like the right name for a place about sharing Scripture.

Why we started

The site began in 2014 with a simple idea. So much of life now happens on a screen, and a verse shared at the right moment can be a real comfort, whether it lands with someone going through a hard season or someone who has never opened a Bible. We wanted to make verses that were easy to read, easy to understand and easy to send on to a friend.

Over the years the site grew, mostly by word of mouth and the odd shared image. People kept coming back to a handful of passages, the ones about comfort, grief and hope, and that told us we were onto something worth tending carefully.

What we try to do well

Every verse here comes with a short, honest reflection on what it means. We try to explain things plainly, the way you would to a friend over a cup of tea, without church jargon and without pretending faith is always tidy. We are gentle with doubt, because most of us have known it.

We also make a shareable image for each verse, so you can save it, send it, or post it for someone who needs encouragement today. There is never any charge for any of this. Please use and share whatever helps.

A note on the Bible we use

Unless we say otherwise, the verse text on this site is the World English Bible, a modern, accurate translation that is in the public domain, so we can share it freely. We treat the words of Scripture as something to handle with care and never to alter. Where another wording adds something, we say which translation it is.

How we work

A few plain promises about how this site is made, because trust matters here more than anything else. Every reflection is written by a real person on our team, not churned out by a machine. We write them because we have sat with these verses ourselves, in hospital corridors and at gravesides and on ordinary tired mornings, and not to fill a page or to please a search engine.

The Bible text is the public-domain World English Bible, British Edition, quoted exactly and never altered to make a point. When we quote a Christian writer we check the wording and the attribution, and where a much-loved line is widely repeated but we cannot confirm who really said it, we say so honestly rather than guess. The verse images are our own design and free for anyone to use; the Scripture on them is public domain, so there is no licence to arrange.

We are not perfect. If you spot a mistake, in a reference, a translation or an attribution, please tell us and we will put it right. You can get in touch here.

Who we are

We are an independent Christian publishing project based in the United Kingdom, run by a small group rather than any one famous name. Articles are published under the byline of The 316 Quotes Team. We are ordinary believers who think these words are worth sharing well, and that is really the whole story.
