Baptism and New Believers
Few Sundays are as glad as a baptism. Someone stands up and says, in effect, that the old life is behind them and a new one has begun. These verses tell that story in Scripture’s own words: saved by grace and not by our own effort, set free by the Son, made new, with Christ now living in us. They suit a baptism or confirmation, a welcome for new members, or a card for someone just starting out.
Baptisms, confirmations and professions of faith happen throughout the year.
A note for planning
Keep the focus on what God has done, not on the new believer’s promise to do better. Baptism pictures grace: we go down into the water as we are, and come up belonging to him. Choose one verse for the moment itself and let it be enough.
